The 1964 RCA TR-4 was a compact record-play quad video tape recorder. Weighing only 900 pounds and requiring only 20 amps at 120 volts, it was totally self-contained. (That includes air compressor!) It was essentially a TR-3 with an additional module frame on the left side of the machine for the record electronics.

Is it to beat the machine into submission when it reads...INPUT ERROR ???

And they were a fucking maintenance nightmare to keep running....I know, I used to have to.
RCA also stuck handles on the side of a horizontal model,
and then claimed it was "portable."

- Why do radio station announcers have small hands?
Short paws for station identification!
