6/25/2004:
These three interiors show clearly enough how pop art has exploded into the modern house. None of these bedrooms would have been possible a decade or so ago.

The bed and round table in the room on the left were designed by Brian Long, who was awarded a major project prize in an Aeropreen/Dunlop Competition. Brian Long developed the prototype for the bed with the assistance of ICI, whose help with pioneering design efforts has been marked of recent years. It is of moulded plastic with a mattress of solid polyurethane foam. The same printed fabric is used as a wall-covering and on the bed. The carpet is off-white wool, latex-backed.

The room shown at the right is part of the attic floor of a house converted by Peter and Monique Beale. Mrs Beale says: ‘Turn left, up a few stairs and you are in a practically all-white furry room which is a fantastic place to sleep in—like a tent. It opens on to a small terrace on which we eat, sleep and laze whenever there’s sun. Finally bottom right, is a corner of the bedroom in John Stefanidis’ apartment, in which a mural by Millington-Drake swirls across two of the walls. The bed is covered with a lynx rug. Tomorrow’s world, it seems, is here today in these rooms.
