"When casting models for a previous series, Bettina Rheims had decided that 'sex was gone from young people'. However, in 1999, she noticed that young girls were once again 'amazingly full of sex, pleasure and the desire to seduce'. She decided to make this series celebrating this return of sexuality. None of the girls featured had ever modeled before, and were chosen for their attractive gawkiness. 'The girls are made up as if they're going on TV, but the rest of their bodies are clumsy, awkward,' she said. 'They're learning how to live. This work has to do with not knowing how to use your seductiveness.'"
