"Tim Noble originally modeled a death's head skull out of plasticine when he was in his mid teens. 'Because my mum was a jeweler she cast it and made it into a ring', he says. 'In fact she made two. The only people to ever wear them were Sue and me.' Characteristic of the artists' output, the rings mix contradictory themes of love and death, nihilism and sentimentality. But Noble and Webster are not just art partners; they are lovers too. So the fact that this is an artwork displaying their archetypal iconography is tempered by the knowledge that the rings are also a gift of love."
